These boulders are located near the Just Outstanding Trailhead, near the Alta Sierra Ski Resort at Shirley Meadows. At over 6,500 feet in elevation, the location is perfect for summer bouldering. Although its very easy access, not all of the rocks are immediately obvious. You might have to hike around a bit to find them all. They offer a variety of problems of all levels. If anyone knows specific names, let us know!
Heading up the ridge to the right of the trail. |
Located at the Just Outstanding Trail. This is just 2 miles south of Greenhorn Summit on Rancheria Road at the Alta Sierra Ski Resort Parking area. Take the 155 7 miles up from Wofford Heights, and turn left at the summit. Drive to the ski area parking, about 2 miles farther. From the ski parking lot, walk south along Rancheria Road (25S15) almost a 1/2 mile and look for the trail on the right. Or park off to the left, across from the trail.
Near the top of the little hill. |
Immediately, to the right of the trail, you'll see some small boulders. Keep working your way up the ridge a little, to the right of the trail. The boulders are scattered throughout this area. Also check down the backside (farther right) past an old road thats been covered with trees. There are some larger boulders and fun lines.
